I started work for CCF designers in St. Helena when I was twenty years old.
Their team of six designers cranked out individual labels for presentations,
and I was just a simple production artist. One day I begged to design a
label of my own to put in the presentation. They reluctantly agreed. The
client liked old fruit boxes, so I meticulously painted one by hand. To
everyone’s surprise (especially my own), the client actually picked
my label. I was a production artist no more.
